supports management, while understanding that their role is in our organization’s governance, and not in its management/operations?

Do you bring senior leadership skills in any of the following skills/expertise areas we are
prioritizing for one upcoming opening on Scientists in School’s Board of Directors?
- Non-profit organization governance
- Fund development

Overview of Scientists in School
Founded in 1989, Scientists in School recognizes that early and repeated positive exposure to science and engineering is critical to instilling life-long interest and setting young learners on the path to scientific literacy, thoughtful citizenry, and bright futures. As a crucial partner in elementary STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education, Scientists in School is a catalyst for heightening STEM interest and confidence for youth across their formative elementary school years.
Our classroom, community and family workshops open the wonders of science, engineering and technology to everyone, foster environmental stewardship, and encourage children across Canada to discover the relevance of science in their everyday world.
Our online workshops are available across Canada. They provide rich, engaging and investigative experiences with plentiful opportunities for youth to interact with the visiting scientist guiding the workshop.
We also offer on-site workshops in select areas across Ontario including Toronto, Durham, Peel, York, Halton, Guelph, Waterloo and Ottawa, and in Calgary in Alberta.
Across our 36-year history, over 11 million young scientists have participated. Annually over 350,000 students participate in 13,000+ investigative workshops. Our key STEM outcomes in either single, or more typically annual experiences throughout a child’s elementary school years, include: heightened interest, confidence, and understanding of the relevance of STEM both in their everyday world, and for a breadth of career pathways.
Who we are seeking to support our organization’s governance roles?
We are seeking community-minded individuals with broad senior-level leadership and board experience who can help guide and support the continued evolution of our organization to higher impact.
Specific backgrounds of interest/expertise include: prior experience and/or leadership in non-profit board governance; fund development experience and an ability to help open doors to new partners and funds. Senior leader experience in any these areas would be an asset: human resources, governance, government relations, elementary school education, or risk management.
